- What does it cost to join and post?
Absolutely nothing. The Smoke Signals forum is free.- Who can join?
Anyone who is interested in Gardena High, not just current students and alumni is welcome to sign up.- Who can post?
All registered members of the forum can post as well as email other members.- I lost my password. HELP!
The GHS.Net staff cannot view your current password. We can reset it for you, though. Simply email the staff at GHS.Net, and we will do our best to help you promptly. You will receive an email with a temporary password. We strongly suggest that you change it right away and write your new password down for future reference.- How do I edit my profile?
Towards the top of the forum screen, you will see a bright green bar with a bunch of links. You are looking for Profile. Click on that, and then on Modify and you will now be able to change the name that everyone sees, change the quote under your name, etc.One thing to keep in mind here. All registered members can view your information (except password, of course). Please don't feel you have to reveal everything.
- How do I add a picture?
One of the fields towards the bottom of the the Modify Profile screen says Personalized Pic, and has a menu box. You can select one of our stock pictures, or use your own. The picture should be no larger than 100x100:
Your next step is to put in the complete address to it, meaning, it needs to be on a web server somewhere. For example. The picture is "mypic.jpg" and it is on "mywebsite.com". You would type http://www.mywebsite.com/mypic.jpg. If you get an error, you can try to change it around, or email it to us to upload for you and send you the link. We can also help you crop it down to size.- Can I hide my email address from everyone?
From the public, yes. The GHS.Net Staff can still see it, and you will still receive occasional notices from us, but these are quite rare. If you want to opt out of receiving anything from us, drop us a line, please, and we will try to accommodate you. (We have sent out exactly one mailing this last year.)If you wish to hide your email address, modify your profile and check the appropriate box towards the bottom of the screen.
- How did you get your class names to show on the forum?
Easy. When you are editing your profile, you will see a block that says "Name" with the comment that this is the name that everyone sees. Play with adding your class year behind your name. And yes, if people knew you by a nickname, please feel free to use that as your display name. Whatever makes it easy for you!
- Tribal Roll
- What is this?
The Tribal Roll is a searchable, public, guestbook-like feature that allows you to post a bit about yourself and what you have done since graduation.- Who can use this feature?
All GHS Alumni are welcome to use this feature. Please remember that this can be accessed by the general public. An alternative would be to register for the forum and post in there. Only registered members can view the Smoke Signals forums.- I made a mistake. I need to edit my information.
There are two ways to do this. When you initially sign up, you get a confirmation email back. Use the name and password to edit your information.- How did people get their pictures in there?
Using the information on the confirmation email, you can upload a picture using a special link. The picture should be no larger than 100x100:- I lost my confirmation email, and want to edit my info or add a picture.
Don't worry. It happens to everyone. Just email us and tell us clearly what you want to do.

- How do I get my event listed?
The GHS.Net website is divided into two main sections - the parent website and the forum. For the parent website, we request that you send an email with all of the details, a contact name, and any graphics you have to the GHS.Net Staff, and we will do our best to help you.For the Smoke Signals forum, nothing is better than having you, or anyone on your planning committee jump into the forum and do that post. Not only do you control what is said to promote your event, but your post shows up immediately. It also really helps get your name recognized, too. We have several boards on the forum that you may utilize. Talk about instant gratification!!
- How long will it take to post on the website?
If you have sent us a web-ready document, we will try to have your information online at least 30 days before the event and usually within a week of receiving it. As we all have other duties, please remind us gently if we don't have it posted in a timely fashion.- What formats do you accept?
If you have questions, please ask us first! Sending us other file formats may delay getting your information online.
- .JPG or .GIF for pictures
- .txt or .doc for text
- Windows Zip format for file compression
- You may send us .html or .htm files, complete with graphics and any other needed files in a .zip file *IF* you are handy with HTML.
- Why don't you take other file formats?
It is all about speed and maintaining the quality of the website. Other graphics formats may work, but at a different quality and load time that you want.- I don't have any artwork. Can you help me?
Usually, yes. Please send us your information well in advance, and we will ask our Graphics Guru to assist you.
- Photo Album
- How do I send in pictures?
An email attachment is usually the easiest. Please don't forget to describe the pictures like who is in them, and where/when they were taken. You can put them in a .zip file for easy handling and send them to us.- What file formats do you accept?

Don't worry. You are among the majority. Just drop us a lineand try to explain your problem. We will do our best to help you with everything from size and format to putting the photos online with a link you can use.
- GHS Email Network
- What is this?
This is a loose alliance of GHS Alumni who have asked to be on an email network. Notices of upcoming events as well as life events (weddings, deaths, etc) are broadcast to a sizeable list of grads.- What does it cost?
The Email Network itself is free. There is also an alumni newsletter that costs $12/year.
- Other
- My Class wants to build its own website. Can you help us?
Yes, we can. We have always had a Class Website Coordinator who's entire responsibility is to assist other classes with their websites. Skip Bennett '72 is our coordinator, and he can help with everything from basic site design to hosting. You can also send the same info to the GHS.Net Staff and we will do our best.- I want to help with the Diamond Jubilee.
Post your intent in the Diamond Jubilee forum, and/or contact Gentry Akens 72 directly. He will put you to work. This year, they also need help from those with computer access, not just locally. Lots of positions to fill!- I want to help with the GHS.Net Website
Awesome! Your ideas are always welcome. Currently, we have a staff of 3 solid webmasters. If you have an idea, post it in our site feedback board on the Smoke Signals forum, or email it to us. Ya never know, though... we just might put you to work! We always say that the best way you can help is post.. and work with others to post.
